Tooth or Gum Issues/Discomfort? 🤔

Question

I read a lot of woman suffer from tooth/gum issues during pregnancy. Have any of you experienced this? If so, what did you do to alleviate the discomfort?

Those who planned out their pregnancy did you see your dentist for cleaning etc prior to getting preggers?

I have had some off and on. Specifically I still have my wisdom teeth and they like to move around a lot. I avoid taking anything, rinse with listening (it makes my mouth sorta numb and tingly) use hot compresses, and bee propolis.

Gum soreness is really common. Pregnancy hormones make the body extra sensitive to oral bacteria. Tooth pain isn't caused by pregnancy hormones- but diet can change in pregnancy and that can cause cavities. (Based on what you're consuming obviously) the best thing to do is stay on top of your hygiene at home. Floss floss floss! Rinse with listerine. Brush for 2 minutes two times a day. We recommend dental cleanings to be held off until the 2nd trimester or just wait until after baby is born :)

I'm a dental hygienist and I've had a lot of pregnant patients with gum issues. Even still, I was shocked when I became pregnant and my gums became incredibly sensitive and inflamed. I had to up my flossing from once to twice a day and make sure that I was giving my gums a nice gentle massage with my toothbrush at every brushing. On top of that, regular dental cleanings are also super important. I always recommend my patients have a thorough cleaning and take care of any prexisting dental issues prior to TTC and then to keep up their regular dental cleanings throughout pregnancy. Gum disease has been linked to premature birth and low birth weight if you need more incentive. :)

My dentist will not do cleanings while I am pregnant without a specific note from my OB.
 
BUT - I agree that flossing at LEAST once, if not twice a day, plus. Rushing TWICE a day, REALLY helps.
 
If you have acid reflux, you may want to brush more often and gargle warm salt water to clean out then back of your mouth as well.  
 
I was told to avoid mouth wash, as well as anything with whitening agents.  So I just use a regular gel toothpaste, and warm salt water to rinse afterwards.

I actually had an iron issue with my first so i chewed a lot of ice and now I’m 24 ttc and just had to have all my teeth removed because they were too painful to do anything with
