Are you still swaddling?

Question

Lo turned just turned 4 months old.  His startle reflex continually wakes him up (with 1 arm out) at night. And it's been this way for 5 nights in a row.  Is it too early to wean him off? He also just started rolling over from tummy to back.

If they are rolling you shouldn't be swaddling anymore. They need their arms in case they end up on their stomachs. They need it to push their head up. Just wrap the wings under their arms or try the sleep sacks.

Try baby merlins sleep suit.  She's no longer swaddled and this has helped.  But when we first tried it at around 3 months, she didn't do well-her startle reflex was still waking her.

We stopped cold turkey at 10 weeks. After a few rough nights she slept through the night. I was going to transition but i dont think the startle reflex is going to go away until she's not swaddled at all vs a transition. I'd prefer a few rough nights and then things being better vs a long transition before things are better

We're in the process now of unswaddling her at 22 weeks and it's a friggen nightmare. We were able to put her down to bed awake and she'd put herself to sleep and stay asleep for hours. Now even with just one arm out she can't settle herself. She has always had extremely grabby hands (came out hands first, would grab the fingers of the nurses when they checked my cervix and even had to tickle her hand to let go of my vagina on her way out, that kinda grabby hands). We're working with a sleep consultant, best investment ever! Definitely consult with one, I guarantee you won't regret it!

We were using the Halo sleep sack from birth and then tried the love to dream swaddle around month two when my daughter started getting strong enough to push her arms out of the Halo.

At almost three months we stopped swaddling without any transitioning because she was getting very upset trying to push her arms up out of the swaddle and couldn't. She knew she was ready and did great without it!

I read a lot about it because my baby loved her swaddle. We use the swaddleme wraps. We decided on a slow transition and pulled put one arm first. Now we just swaddle waist down. She adjusted well, the binky helped as she learns to self soothe. But I have friends who kept swaddling...what I read said it's ok, especially if they still startle. The,startle should go away between 3 to 5 months I believe. Just watch for baby rolling...I got nervous when mine started rolling onto her side in her bassinet.

We stopped at 3 months. We tried Baby Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit for a couple weeks, but it didn't help us much, so I just moved to sleep sacks. We were having sleep issues anyway, so it was the perfect opportunity to make the transition.
