Gel nails and c section?

I've worn gel nails maybe 4 times my entire life. Love them, but they ruin my natural nails so I don't unless it's a very special occasion. However, I got to thinking, don't they make you remove any polish before a c section? So what do they do if it's not a planned c section and you're wearing gel nails? You'd think doctors would start warning you to not get them when it's close to delivery time?

The only reason they would impose that limitation of no polish is because generally part of the monitoring equipment when you're in surgery is an oxygen saturation probe which mostly is clipped onto your finger - it needs to pass light through the nail and then it "reads" the colour/saturation that passes through. But most hospitals would now have an earlobe probe so a nail wouldn't be necessary :)

If your scheduled for a c section or any surgery they are supposed to tell you no polish before hand but I'm sure that can't do nothing about it when it's spur of the moment I never understood why they say no polish but don't say anything about fake nails in general
