how pricey are kids?

Right now I'm 22 and am making around 70k a year if I choose to work full time. My boyfriend makes about 95k. I worry about paying for kids in this economy...I really would like them in the next few years. I don't know how long we should wait though(our pay goes up every year or so depending how quickly we jump up in positions)...what were you making when you had them? How much is enough to raise a kid or two?
