To wake the baby or not wake the baby for clear liquids before surgery?!?

Question

My 8 month old is having surgery on Friday and  he's allowed to have clear liquids up until 5am ( and his surgery is at 9am). He sleeps through the night and usually wakes up at 6-630AM and is sooo ready for to eat in the morning.

I was hoping some momma's with surgery experience could tell me what they did. Should I wake him up? Or just let him sleep as much as he can?

I think I'm actually more anxious about him being hungry than the actual procedure 😩

I would let him sleep. My daughter has had multiple surgeries and I never wake her to eat. We wake her up just before we have to leave for the hospital and she has always been fine and not crabby. Good luck!

My daughter will be 9 months tomorrow and she just had heart surgery this past Monday. She wasn't allowed to eat after midnight Sunday night and she usually wakes at 2:30am and 5:30 to eat and her surgery wasn't until 8am and she was okay. My husband and I just had to put her in the car at 4am because she wouldn't go back to sleep without eating. Just try to put your little one in a place that is irresistible for sleep until it's time. Good luck. Make sure they have an experienced nurse to start an IV. They blew my daughters vein three times in a row.

my son had surgery at 7 months. they let him have breastmilk up until 4 hours before surgery. we had to be there by 645 for 815 procedure. I woke him at 345 to nurse him & brought pedialyte in case he needed something before the surgery but he actually did just fine & didn't need it. he was super hungry afterwards though (around 10). was very cranky on post-op once he woke up but I nursed him right away & he did great.
