How well do 88c test work?

I took a 5.99 cent equate test and got a positive with in time frame. Than today I bought a 88 cent dollar tree test . And came up negative until a couple hours than I saw a line . Lol yes I know that dollar tree test was invalid. But my question is . The equate test I took.  Is it more reliable then the dollar tree test

The last time I researched test, I found that a lot of people were having problems with the equate tests (not 88c first signals) giving false positives. So I can't necessarily say the quality lies with the branding or the cost. Many people swear by the pink dye tests and most usually use the 88c tests or dollar tree tests because that's just as good. I'd prefer to avoid false positives so I just get one of those two tests. If people who have spent longer than I have TTC then I trust their recommendations.
