POC: Was Adele wrong to mention her black friends?
I was watching the Grammys last night when at the end of the show, Adele won Album of the Year for 25 and Record of the Year for "Hello". When she accepted the awards for both, she mentioned Beyoncé and with Album of the Year, she went on and on about how Lemonade was so good and empowering and metioned how amazing it made her feel and how it made her black friends feel empowered. She said that Beyoncé completely deserved the award and wondered what in the world she had to do to win Album of the Year. My question to you is how did Adele saying "my black friends" make you feel? While I feel that it could have been the wrong choice of words, that Lemonade was all about empowering black women and that Adele was just trying to convey that in a moment where it's hard to think before you speak sometimes. Just curious as to the thoughts of POC as you are the ones that her words could actually affect.
