Sleep Help?

Question

My baby cries in the middle of the night in her crib. She's 8 months. She'll sleep 8pm-12 am. Usually I'll feed her, change her diaper, etc but she won't stay sleep in her crib. She'll be up again around 3 am.  Idk what to do. I've tried bath and playtime before bed. But then she'll wake up in the middle of the night and cry until I go get her. Once I get her, she thinks it's play time. She wants to stand and climb all over me in my bed. When I try to lay her down with me she throws a tantrum and sits up/stands. If she's fed and changed can I just leave her in her crib if she's crying? She just wants to be held. If I walk in every 5 min she'll cry even harder every time she sees me.

We're coming out the other side of some similar sleep issues. What I found worked for us was to sit down on the floor next to the crib and talk softly and hold their hand through the crib rails, but not to pick them up unless they're totally losing it. As long as they're fed and have a clean diaper and they're comfortable, they will eventually they will figure out that nighttime is for sleeping and while you will be there with them to help them feel safe, you aren't going to play with them.

The other thing I'd work on if you haven't already is putting them down awake at bedtime instead of nursing/rocking them to sleep. It can be a tough transition but once my son was consistently putting himself to sleep at bedtime, he was also waking up a lot less frequently at night (ie: only sometimes once).
