Risk of toxoplasmosis for strictly indoor cat?

Question

First off: I am NOT considering giving up my cat. He is here to stay. Just wanted to make that very clear.

My question is just how risky is it for me to clean his litter box while pregnant if he has never been outside and has never caught a mouse? The most "hunting" he's done is for the occasionally fly or spider.

I always wash my hands very well afterwards anyway (germaphobe). Do I need gloves? A mask? Or is that overkill? I live alone til August so there's really no one else to do it.

Is there a way to get him tested to see if he even carries it?

If he's inside only and hasn't gotten outside in the last few weeks there is next to know risk. You'd actually be more at risk eating undercooked meat. However they always err on the side of caution because toxoplasmosis during a pregnancy can generate some awful complications.

Your best bet is to glove and mask up while cleaning and make sure to wash very thoroughly with soap and water.

I have a cat and my doctor told me that if you can avoid changing his litter then you should however if you can't avoid changing the litter then you need to be wearing gloves and mask and make sure to clean your hands extremely well afterwards and to change the litter frequently in order to avoid the bacteria building up.

It's not likely... and I know that but my husband doesn't 😂 so he cleans the litter box now 😂😂😂 I've cleaned it every single time since we got the cat, it's his turn lol

Use gloves and make sure your arms are covered as well wash your hands and the gloves afterwards if you plan to keep the gloves. I have a dog which puts me at risk of salmonella I use gloves and face mask when handling any poo or cleaning up after him your risk is more serious so be cautious. Also, if you have anyone else that will do it that's a better suggestion

Hi I have two cats and they are indoor! Never cought anything or ate raw meat! I cleaned the litter with my first born when I had too and I am cleaning it now and my daughter is happy and healthy 27 month old! My vet told me that likelihood of my cats having that's is lol 1:10000! 
Plus if you clean the litter every day and change it completely every two weeks with washing your hands right after the risk is almost nothing !

It is highly unlikely that you cat is a carrier. But to be safe, I suggest wearing gloves and thoroughly washing your hands after scooping the litter box.

Side note: a mask isn't going to change anything. Toxoplasmosis is spread through contact, not air
