Other moms whose baby is on zantac or other medicine for reflux

My doctor wants to wean my son of his zantac. He's almost 7 months old and our ped said he likes to wean them by 9 months since most have grown out of it. We were doing twice a day (first bottle of day and then an evening bottle) but now we are doing just the morning bottle and then we will go to every other day and then nothing. He does great during the day bcuz he has the medicine in him but so far the evening/nighttime he's throwing up at least once when it wears off and he doesn't receive his other dose. Anybody else's kid been weaned off and is it working? Anybody's try weaning and it not work? Just curious if maybe it'll take a week or two for him to get used to it and then he will be fine. I'm just afraid he hasn't grown out of it yet and I don't want to go backwards because it was bad before medicine!!!!
