sleep training at 10 months anyone?

Anyone do sleep training this late in the game? I'm up with my LO 4x per night most nights and I'm so tired. This schedule is starting to take its toll on me. A lot of what I read about sleep training at this age says not to because of separation anxiety. But, I don't know how much more I can take. Thoughts? Advice? Experiences? We currently nurse to sleep.

I have some nights where I'm up with my daughter every hour or every other hour. Other times she may only wake up once around 3-4 a.m. to eat and go back to bed. She was an awesome sleeper and I didn't have any issues until she was 6 months old. At that point she was crawling and standing in her crib so laying her down drowsy to get herself to sleep wasn't an option. I got into a groove of just laying her back down every time she stood up until she relaxed, stayed down, and went back to sleep. Then she got sick, we had a vacation, she got sick again, and then cut her first teeth. Any training we had was blown. I've just been toughing it out getting up and nursing her because it's the only thing to get her back down with out an awful, long, and stressful production. I'm not one for crying it out. It doesn't go over well for anyone in the family, so I've just been going with what works best for getting everyone back in bed as easily and as quickly as possible.

I don't know if I can take any credit for "sleep training" I think my daughter just naturally is a great sleeper.... but, we transitioned her into her crib when she was 6 months old and it was harder on me than her lol. We just found our own routine and stuck to it every night, now before I walk out the door she is asleep and sleeps for 8-10 hours through. We use a sound machine as well which I think helps as well :) I mean tomorrow she could decide she wants to wake up every other hour but for the past almost 5 months it's worked. Good luck!

A few weeks ago my sons pediatrician said to disassociate nursing with sleep. So, now I feed him food, nurse, bathe, read him a short book, and put him in the crib. He's out within minutes. At first he was waking up about 5-6 hours later, the last couple of nights he's slept through the night. Good luck.

We did a variation on sleep training. She still sometimes falls asleep nursing but now knows how to fall back to sleep if she wakes during the night. Before she woke up almost hourly. Now if she wakes before 2, I lay her back down (because she's usually standing in the crib) and she goes back to sleep. After 2 or 3 I'll go ahead and nurse her. We're getting there. We waited till I weaned at a year for my son but this little girl was too stubborn for that. A few nights of crying and she was on track to becoming a better sleeper.

I don't believe in letting babies cry it out but after weeks of trying I finally got my son to the point that he sleeps in his bed at night and for nap. It took just doing it over and over. First it was just for naps. I rock him in his rocker feeding him then lay him down. Now if tired enough he doesn't have to be completely asleep. Also my husband laid on his floor to get him used to his room. We got a night light with stars that go on the walls. Idk if you're breastfeeding or not but I give one bottle of formula at night. Also if they can't smell your milk they won't want to wake up and eat as often. I've even laid in his crib with him until asleep. Just try everything and stick to trying and not giving in. Babies at 10 month should be able to sleep without waking up to eat at night. So maybe just go in and comfort and not take out of crib. Also we skipped a nap a few times to make him super tired. It's all starting new habits not too late tho

Because of the separation anxiety my son started waking up a loooot during the night and would not go back down in his sleep. I figured it was because he was falling asleep in my arms, then would wake up alone and freak out. So now I do half his bottle before bath and half after then we do a story while rocking so he's sleepy. I put him down awake so that he falls asleep on his own. He still sometimes will wake up but I watch him on the monitor and he puts himself back to sleep. It can be exhausting! Good luck mama. Even with the separation anxiety the sleep regression shouldn't last too long!
