advice for a new car

So my husband totaled my car, I need a new one ugh. I'm stuck between the ford explorer and the Dodge Durango. I had a 2010 Ford Edge and I loved it (I can't drive big cars). my husband wants a minivan or a truck but I said no. We have 2 huge dogs 2 cats a one year old son and one on his way, what car would you recommend me? There are other cars that have room inside but are not too big?
