how do contractions feel?

I'm 35 almost 36 weeks and am confused on what I'm feeling. My mom told me they don't hurt it's just a tightness you feel. I've felt my stomach get very tight (baby moves around during this feeling) and then just today I've kind of felt cramping they didn't last that long maybe about ten minutes on and off. I never get period cramps or anything like that so I'm just confused on what I should be feeling.  When did you guys start feeling contractions?

So I didn't feel mine either my stomach would just get tight and once I was at the hospital they told me my water had broke and I just didn't feel the pain of contractions. Then they gave me half a pill of pitocin and damn those contractions hurt like a mother! I don't get what your mom means by they don't hurt? Maybe you are experiencing Braxton hicks contractions. , Braxton Hicks contractions tend to occur somewhat more often, but until you get to your last few weeks, they'll probably remain infrequent, irregular, and painless.

Mine started Kind like period cramps they didn't hurt just uncomfortable. Then once they admitted me they got stronger and it hurt more in my right hip

It starts off as just your belly tightening. It will feel really hard to the touch and no hurt. But once in full blown labor the tightness gets way more intense.
