Nipples turning red?????

Hoping I can get some help in this board too!

So I'm 7 weeks pp, and I noticed earlier that my nipples itself was red. No big deal, baby probably went to town on them and it'd heal up. Now nine hours later, it's spreading to the immediate areola like some odd rash. Anyone know what this is? Could it just be sudden irritation or something more? Thanks in advance!

Is it itchy? Is it sort of white around that area as well? It could be yeast.
Or is it hot and inflamed and tender? Is it just one nipple or two? Is it definitely the nipple, and not the tissue surrounding the nipple? I'm wondering if it could be mastitis, but that's usually in the actual breast tissue, not the nipple itself.
Have you seen a lactation consultant? Have they checked Babe for a tongue or lip tie? If s/he has a tongue tie, it could cause cracking in your nipples which can be very painful, however normally that would have happened before 7 weeks pp.

I guess what I'm saying is I need more info! Can you tell me more about the pain or discomfort you're feeling?

Try to check babies mouth for white spots and also the diaper area for a rash. It sounds like thrush- look it up online and see if it looks that way. If so, try to get in w a lactation consultant and your OB / pediatrician. Thrush can be a real problem to get rid of but they can give you more info. Good luck mama!
