How long did your baby wear newborn clothing?

I've heard so many people say you shouldn't get too many newborn clothes because they outgrow them quick. Assuming the baby is not premature and born at an average weight, how long do I need to plan for newborn clothing? What do I need?

My baby girl was 9lbs n 21in at her 2month appointment so now she can't fit any of the newborn carter onesies that she has. I wish she did tho cus they r the only ones that have the mittens built in

My first around 4 weeks and my 2nd around a day, he was 9lb 6oz so he fit better in up to 1 month and 0-3months, he was going into 3-6months at 6-7 weeks.

Not at all. My son was 10 on 9 oz though and wore 3 month size at birth. I remember having 33 newborn outfits I'd been gifted that I returned, gave to friends, and donated to the NICU at my local hospital. I'd have some newborn clothes on hand but don't go to crazy. Stick to onesies, sleepers, and sleep sacks (good basics). Save the cute outfits for when baby is a bit bigger and you're out of the house more!

My baby was born at 37 weeks was 4 pounds 15.9 ounces and is 5 weeks today and still in preemie clothes and diapers. My niece was born at 8 pounds 2 ounces and was in preemie diapers for a month and newborn clothes for 2 months . It all depends on the baby and how well he/she is growing. My son was born at 4700gr. Needless to say that many cute newborn outfits went straight to the storage box cause he was to big to wear them. 
We used 1-3 months outfits when he was a newborn, then we were always ahead with the sizes. As for what I had: 
• 10-12 bodysuits (short sleeves cause he was wearing them during the summer) 
• 6 bodysuits (long sleeved for cool nights or trips) 
• 2 pramsuits - for traveling (seaside, countryside,etc.) 
• several hats - only for windy days (not wearing them inside) 
• 6-10 leggings ( they get dirty or wet quite often) 
• 4 overalls ( just because they are so sweet) 
• 2-4 rompers 
• 2 sets of socks (no more than 6 pairs) 
• blankets (cotton and soft merino wool)

We'be bought many of these AFTER he was born and with time passing we adjusted the basics according to season and our schedule. For ex we didn't bought pretty outfits just to have them, we bought it when we knew we were going to attend a wedding or an important party.

Anywhere from two weeks to a month with all but one the one that didn't wear newborn was 10lbs 9oz at birth and newborn wouldn't fit lol but the rest were in new born about a month average
