Am I shitty?

Question

Is it shitty that my boyfriend is trying to figure things out and doesn't know about going to school and that bugs me? I mean I love him. But it worries me  lot and it's hard to think about a future where we would be able to afford all the things we've always wanted (house, babies etc.). He's just so smart.... it makes me question our future together.... we are only 19 but I get anxious about a lot of things especially my future...

You can still get decent jobs without college degrees. My husband dropped out of college and is a mechanic. He makes enough to pay for us both since I'm in school and not really working. 
My point is that having a college degree doesn't mean you're going to make a ton of money. I know many people who got degrees in one thing and their field of work is completely different so their degree is basically pointless. I also know people with no degree who make at least two times more than those with. It all just depends what future job HE wants. 
Wether or not he goes to college is HIS choice. Not yours. Yes, you can have a small say-so. But just like things with your own life, it's HIS choice. Don't force him to go or make him feel bad for not because then he'll either be unhappy in school and probably drop out or if you make him feel bad he may see it as education meaning more to you than the connection you two have. Be supportive of whatever decision he makes.

Agreed, not everyone is cut out for college. HOWEVER, it will take longer to gain experience needed to get a decent paying job. He doesn't have to go to med school or even a 4 year degree. Even a short program at a community college will give you guys a better chance at a successful future. Also realize that we don't stop growing until we're 25, and boys are about 2 years behind girls developmentally. He most likely hasn't realized how the current will affect the future. The best you can do is guide him. Best of luck!

I don't think it's unusual to worry about your future with your partner when they are confused about what they should do with their life (as far as a career goes).

I was with my ex for years and one of my biggest issues with him was that he was very intelligent but let it go to waste. If he was making very little money but doing something he absolutely loved then I'd have been more accepting but, he wasn't. He was doing something he kinda liked but constantly complained about how he isn't moving up and doesn't get recognition but refused to make a change because school and training courses were "too much work" for him. Really ticked me off, tbh. Such a waste as he had real interests he could have successfully pursued but he was too lazy to do it.

My current husband, however, loves what he does and is good at what he does and one of the most attractive things about him is that he is so incredibly driven to do better and move forward. And he does! He always gets ahead and to exactly where he wants to be. I'm so proud AND we get to progress in life. Our future is bright.
