Do you think it's a bad idea to get a pet hedgehog for my son who is 21/5

I was thinking of getting a hedgehog for my son. I think it would be good for him to learn how to clean and feed an animal. I think he would enjoy it. They are very low maintenance and easy. Mostly for him just to be excited.

They are NOT low maintence and easy to care for!! I have 7 pets and my hedgie is definitely not one of the easiest... and he is the smelliest! No lie. Hedgehog poop is bad! You have to clean their wheel everyday after they run or else it will stink up the whole room.. Plus he might not want to hold him much because it can hurt if you don't pick them up by the tummy. If you don't socialize with them enough, then they don't even want to be held. Maybe consider getting a leopard gecko! He's probably the easiest pet I have plus they're really cool :)

Absolutely. I am 26 yrs old and even then they are so hard to care for. They can be so grumpy if they aren't socialized right and usually only come out at night.

Not the best choice for a toddler.. maybe a fish. He can feed it, look at it, help wash the bowl.

Yes, many people think small animals are "good starter pets" when in reality they are much more work than a dog or a cat. Plus most of the information and advice on care that you'll receive from pet stores is not accurate. As someone who has had many pets, I would recommend getting him a dog, a child friendly cat, or a low matainance fish (like a gold fish). Never buy small toddlers small animals, not only are they high matainance but they are also very fragile. Toddlers can easily underestimate their strength and injure a small animal in a matter of seconds.

I had one as a kid and I loved her, but damn she was WAY too much work! First of all, they are most active at NIGHT! Second, they are sharp and if they don't like you, well have fun! 
We got my daughter a small (10gal) fish tank and some fish. She feeds them and likes to watch them but she's almost 4.

I had a hedgehog and if you don't socialize them enough and correctly they will get startled and stab you every time you try to pick them up. And with them being nocturnal not the best for a kid. Maybe a hamster or guinea pig

How about like a beta fish. He can feed it. Help clean its bowl. And its alot less work then a hedge hog. Cat and dog would fall on you. Pretty much any pet you get a kid at 2 1/2 falls on you but id say fish.
