Is it a waste of money to have a wedding / reception after your already married? Why/why not?

Well no, especially if it was a destination wedding or courthouse and you want to celebrate with your family and friends. Go for it if that's what yous want. Doesn't even need to be anything to fancy ya know :)

My husband and I got married in a park. My brother married us. We then had a cook-out style reception I loved every part of it but, a part of me still wants a decent wedding sooo at our 5 year anniversary, we plan to have a real wedding. Nothing too wild but, one where people can be there to see it. We'll hopefully have kids by then and they can be a part of it. Been married 8 months today!

We had a courthouse wedding with close family and friends (about 20 of us total) and then went to a nice restaurant afterwards to celebrate. It was perfect, my brother in law took pictures for us. We had a big "wedding" the following year to do it traditionally with all our friends and family with the white dress, etc. it was so stressful and I wish we wouldn't have wasted the time and money on the big hoopla. But to each their own.

That depends on the couple. For some people the big hoopla is important. If it is affordable, then all the power to them.

I did the look of a big hoopla but on my parents farm and a small budget. That was 7.5 years ago. We've been together almost 10 years and have 3 kids now. Looking back, it's was gorgeous and everything I had dreamed of. But priorities change with age. At this point I understand what marriage is all about and the marriage is so much more important than the wedding. I think so many brides lose sight of that.

For my husband and I it was more important to own our own home than have an expensive party. We got married in our backyard. We had about 30 friends and family over, they thought they were there for a gender reveal, we surprised them with a wedding. It cost us $300 total and everyone said it was the best wedding they have ever been to. In my opinion a big ceremony/reception is a huge waste of money. You never get a return on your investment.
