Getting Pregnant While Breastfeeding?

Question

My doctor has told me that it's less than 1% likely for me to get pregnant again while I'm breastfeeding. My husband and I want our kids close in age and are planning to try conceiving again within the next month or two, but I'm still breastfeeding our baby girl. I have not had a regular period since getting pregnant with her. Has anyone actually gotten pregnant in this same boat? I don't want to stop breastfeeding but we also don't want to wait too much longer to try conceiving again. I just don't know what the odds are.

You can absolutely get pregnant while breastfeeding. You will ovulate before you get your first period so it really could happen anytime, you're also very fertile after having a baby.

Your doctor is nuts. I got pregnant the one time we had sex that month, it was my first cycle after having my son, and he was still nursing every 2 hours around the clock.

The odds are low, simply because u don't USUALLY get a period until u stop breastfeeding,  or a year into breastfeeding. However,  it doesn't mean it's not possible. It's actually quite bizzare that a doctor has basically told u to go ahead and have unprotected sex, because u have less then 1% chance of getting pregnant.
The funny thing is that MANY women end up pregnant WHILE breastfeeding,  BECAUSE of the misconception that u can't get pregnant while breastfeeding. Obviously,  the chances are not as low as ur doctor has told u, if many on here have reported getting pregnant while breastfeeding,  within the first few months pp.

I'm currently 14 weeks with my second and still breastfeed my 14 month old, so I got pregnant when he was 11 months. My periods did return after 6 months, even though I was exclusively breastfeeding.

No help here, but have you looked into the health complications of getting pregnant within a year of birth? Unless your girl is older, just want you to be knowledgeable~~
