Whats wrong with talking to an ex?

I'm curious as to why so many people on here are so against talking/being friends with an ex. Whats the big deal? I'm still best friends with one of my exes and see nothing wrong with it. My fiance knows and we all hang out often and have a great time. I know everyone has their reasons but I just think it's kind of ridiculous that just because two people dated they should have to cut off all communication, especially seeing that some people just discover they don't do well in a relationship but are great as friends. Obviously there are exceptions (cheating, bad crowd, etc.) and I don't mean this in a rude way, I'm just genuinely curious. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Based on my own experiences... if exes can be friends, one of you is either still in love or never was.

Most of the time, however, I think it makes things messy because who honestly wants to spend time with someone that their loved one used to fuck? You know?

I have never seen a point. It has made things so smooth and jealous free that we don't talk to exes. I don't have an ex worth keeping in contact with.

it depends on the type of relationship a person had with the ex... If the relationship was serious like they planned to get married or to stay together forever, it'll be extremely difficult to forget the past and be just friends with the ex. I'm friends with my exes just because I never really liked any of them lol

I just don't see how maintaining a friendship with an ex is worth the risk it has on your current relationship. An ex is an ex. It's the past. I have no desire keeping in touch with an ex unless it's a worthy person to keep around, and that is one out of guys I've ever dated. But if my SO told me not to talk to them anymore, I wouldn't. It's not that deep.

My ex tried to get me back many times, so he deff missed the rel, I on the other hand was over him completely, so my man said no to a friendship, because my ex is manipulative and sneaky. Exes can have alterior motives. My husbands ex was cool until she started doing drugs and lying to me about my man abusing her in their relationship.

I guess it depends on how it ended and what your friendship was like before. 
I'm still good friends with one of my exes only because we were BEST friends before we started dating. It only lasted 8months and it was mostly long distance. He has a kid now and lives like 3hours away from me. My mother also considers him a son because we grew up together. But we mainly see each other at events we both have, cause we both have our own lives. He's not a fan of my partner and my partner isn't a fan of him but it's never been a problem. 
I did have another ex I tried to be friends with but he was always causing problems in my relationship so i cut that off real quick.

I tried to remain friends with my ex, but he had no intention of supporting my decisions, or even letting me go! He kept trying to pull me back into his arms, and forget trying to have a normal, friendly conversation because that was a concept he couldn't quite grasp, especially when we weren't really used to having, "normal," and friendly conversations. He wanted more and I couldn't give that to him and so... it was time for us both to go our separate ways!

I think the biggest thing is what the relationship and break up were like. I have some exes who (if I wanted to) my husband would be totally ok with me being friends with them, but then there are others that I know he would not be
