Period this month

So my period came a week earlier than it was supposed to & so far it's lasting the normal length too (I'm on the pill) & I thought it was just weird, but it'll be fine. Well the last couple of days I've been clotting pretty bad. I just didn't know if the two of these things happen to coincide with one another or if it's totally fine for it to happen?
