how long do you really NEED to wait?

So I know typically you're told after a vaginal delivery that you should wait 6 weeks before intercourse or using tampons etc... but is it really medically necessary to wait the full 6 weeks? With my first kiddo I had quite a few stitches and wasn't even thinking about sex for at least the first month PP. but with this LO (currently 12 days PP) I don't even feel like I had a baby. Everything felt back to normal and I was ready to go the day we got home. Just curious how long is really necessary to wait and if anyone else ditched the 6 week rule???

I work in the operating room and just did a case on a woman who had a massive tear due to having sex before the recommended time post delivery. Kind of a gamble. You might be fine but there is a reason behind the recommendation. Better to play it safe girl!!!

I was the same. FTM with c section. Within 2w it was like I was never pregnant. No bleeding. No hormone craziness. No pain. When I went for my 2w post opt, Dr said he would release me then but he wanted to see me 1 more time. I went 10d later and was released. So yea, I had sex at 26d pp and all is well. Just got my first period at 33d pp. Everyone is different.

They six week recommendation is to ensure your cervix has closed. Until it has closed it's essentially an open wound meaning you run a very high risk of infection. If your doctor/midwife checks you earlier and sees you have healed you're good to go. I was cleared at 4 weeks. My bleeding had stopped at 2 weeks but I wasn't cleared until 4.

I usually wait until I stop bleeding to go for it. But go slow nothing crazy! If you feel good after 12 days then go ahead and text it out if you feel pain then stop
