Long baby hair!

My baby Leah is six months old and has loooong hair. I love her hair! She's been through so many hair phases. The electric socket look, the fauhawk, the bed head. Now her hair is longer and her bangs are getting in her eyes! I've been told it's better to cut it but there's a big part of me that doesn't want to cut it. I'd like to pull it back but the only thing small enough is little rubber bands and those might hurt her. She also gets tangles but I'm not as concerned (although advice for that might help too).
