I read a few months ago that tampons can have carcinogens in them (no more than any average every-day object might have), but since the vagina tissue is sensitive and we need to be delicate with it, I've stopped using tampons because I'm worried that putting something with carcinogens inside of one of the most tissue-sensitive places in my body isn't a great idea.
