So my ex told me he needs to take some time and space away from me for awhile so I can realize he won't always be there. He says it will be good for us further down the road and will help us be able to be something again.  Which first off doesn't make any sense because when you want to be with someone, you should always want to be there not because I need you or anything just because I want you and want my love and caringness to be reciprocated. Like am I wrong or driving myself crazy thinking he is just using this excuse to let me down easy. I know it's hard to say because no one knows him but it seems like just a typical fuck boy answer. It just hurts so badly because he was my first and true love and we wanted everything together!

*we may have only dated for a year or so but when I first laid eyes on him almost eight years ago in college I knew he would be something special to me. Two years after we frasysred we reconnected and that's when we blossomed. He hasn't been on i could shake. And I've always been one to always listen and feels what's in my heart. I know time heals all and this too shall pass. I'm not going to bother him even though that's going to be hard to not check in on hi but is it okay to still love and care from a far. I may sound crazy but one day I feel as if maybe it could work

I think they do it to keep their options open, if their plan doesn't work out they can always come back. It's weak. If you 2 want to get back together further down the line then discuss it further down the line, he's just hoping it'll stop you from moving on and dating other guys.

Sadly, I said that to my ex boyfriend because I didnt know how to break up with him. We got together after a week of our "break", but I would often tell him I dont want to talk to him for like 3 days because I need to "relax". I was such a fucking bitch towards him at the end of our relationship and I regret not breaking up with him right away. So dont let yourself be played like that. You need to talk to him and either break up or get together. Taking a break is, in my opinion in most cases, bullshit. It would only be acceptable if you were together for like 7 years and you both need time to see where this relationship is going after all these years.

That's an excuse in my opinion. Not only does it sound like we wants to end things, it seems he's trying to keep one foot in the door so he can come back to you when he's done doing his own thing, meanwhile leaving you hurt and confused (sorry you said be honest). Move on so if/when he comes back you can show him you don't need him.
