how to get baby to feed themselves

Anyone got any tips on how to get baby to feed themselves? My daughter is 8 months and can eat fine when I am spoon feeding her, but she loves finger food but only when I feed it her. If I give her the food to try in her hand she will play with it and throw it on the floor, but I see so many other babies her age feed themselves finger foods. She literally won't put anything in her mouth herself even though she's teething she still doesn't chew things.
