Getting a Job and Medicaid?
Has anyone here ever had a child on Medicaid and still been able to have a job? I am a single mom, my child's father didn't sign her birth certificate so she automatically qualified for Medicaid and WIC. I had a job when I was pregnant but my parents told me I had to quit. I am 17 and still live with my parents but I want to get a job and move out. My parents told me if I was to get a part time hourly job my daughter would not qualify for Medicaid any more and all my money would go to a babysitter and health insurance. I'm in college and working on a 4 year degree, my parents said I could move out once I get my degree and get a job. I don't want to live here till I'm 21. My parents have 3 other kids and our house is chaotic. I just don't want to raise my child by their values, they force them on my baby all the time, telling me how I have to raise her, when I want to make my own choices, I don't want her ending up like my siblings, who have terrible behavioral issues. Back on topic though, is it true that If i got a part time job, my daughter would no longer receive Medicaid? I already know I don't want to stay with my parents any longer and want to start a life with my child without my parents heavy involvement. I've looked online at the Medicaid requirements and I can't seem to find information for this. Everytime i try talking to my parents about a job I get shut down. I got an amazing work study offer at my university pertaining to my degree but I was forced to turn it down because my daughter would no longer have insurance. Is this true? Or are my parents trying to prevent me from getting a job?
