How much does it cost to have a baby in California?!

Hi everyone,

FTM here, just curious if you have any insight to how much it may end up costing to birth this baby 😂 (assuming no complications). I have Anthem insurance and it says I will be paying 20%. But... 20% of what total? Anyone have an approximate guess for me? I'm thinking we will end up paying a couple grand? Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure about California but I paid 300$ in PA to have my baby it was 150 a day and I have shitty insurance so I don't think you'll be paying a couple grand

I know it differs by state, and by insurance, but I am in Jersey and witb my deductible I had to pay $4,200 for all my prenatel care, hospital stay, the birth, and post care. Without insurance just the delivery/hospital stay was $37,000.

And apparently I'm in one of the worst places to have a baby lol, I had a c section, I didn't have to pay that price my insurance did I just had a copay of $150 per day in the hospital

My doctor charges $2500 for a birth.  My insurance paid 90% so I owed $250 plus my deductible  (you would pay $500 plus your deductible if it hasn't been met).  There will also be hospital bills but can't completely predict how much those will be depending on what procedures you have done (epidural, etc).  I'm estimating approximately  $2200 as with my first daughter.

It is 20% of the total allowed amount. The hospital ND insurance has a contract if in network and you will pay 20% of what the insurance company allows. You would t know the allowed amount until after you get the bill because the insurance company has to have a class with all procedures and medications and days you were there. It's really Shitty but that's health Insurance for us.  I work for blue cross blue shield so I know how all that stuff works.
