How to get my SO to clean

My fiancé and I have been together for almost four years and we have always lived separately. We recently moved in together on march 3rd so it's been less than a month and I am already about to pull my hair out. He absolutely refuses to clean up. His place was never nasty. It was decent for a guy. But now, he leaves dishes laying around with food still in them. If he's eating candy, he just throws the wrapper on the floor. He's a smoker, which I don't mind, but could you not put ashes in the bathroom sink and leave them there!!!!! Let's not forget about the clothes. We have a hamper in the bathroom and in the bedroom, but somehow his clothes never make it to either one of them. They will be beside the bed or in the middle of the living room floor. We had a big fight about it yesterday and I haven't spoken to him since. I told him that I'm not his maid and if he felt that I was, then where is my paycheck!! His response was,"why are you complaining about things you are suppose to do." Excuse me but we are both adults and capable of cleaning up after ourselves. I love him and would hate to throw away four years behind this but this is ridiculous!!!! Yes, I have mentioned it to him numerous times before the argument. He just doesn't get it. What should I do??
