Does Anyone Have a Kai?

We love that name for a boy and it has the significance to us, but someone told us that it can only be Hawaiian or Japanese. Or a child of mixed backgrounds. We are neither. In fact, he might be blonde or blue eyed for all we know if he takes after my husband. Does anyone have a Kai and how is he received?
Aww! Thank you so much for all of the replies! They really helped and I loved hearing about all of your Kais!
Do you guys like it as a name? Is it too trendy nowdays? I guess we did not want to steal name from anyone's particular specific culture in case it would be offensive, although I do think that names should be universal.
