lost feelings

My boyfriend and I have been together for over a year now, and things were pretty good until about 2 weeks ago. He seemed colder, and last week he said that we shouldn't talk all weekend. Now last night he was talking to my friend (she wanted to find out for me to see what he was doing) and he said he wanted to break up with me, because I'm too negative all the time and he's "over me" and he's made the decision to say goodbye. Of course I couldn't sleep all night and I cried so much. Today when he came around ready to dump me, I just sobbed but for some reason he started to hug me and kiss my forehead while I was busy crying my eyes out. I managed to speak and I asked him if he wanted to get rid of me, but he just looked me in the eyes and said he needs some time to think. I don't know what to do, and I know I'm now being strung along, and I feel stupid but I still love him. What do you guys think about this? Any advice? Is he worth waiting for? What do I do?
