Advice for trying to concieve in the future

I'm currently 20, and in a years time i think I'd like to talk my patrner about TTC our first, we have not been using condoms, only birth control pills. And i don't remember when my last period started, so I'm not sure if that plus not taking my birth control pills everyday at the same time could have any possibility of pregnancy right now, but we want to wait a bit longer, which gives me time to decide on things with me and my partner living together... any advice would be awesome...
