Full term?

Question

So ive heard mixed answers about this. Is 37 weeks full term or 38? I know all that matters is baby is healthy but i honestly want her out and want to know when is safer to try and start labor. (Please no lectures)

39 weeks is full term
41+ post term

40 weeks should be the length of your pregnancy. But babies come before or after.

My OB considers 39-40 weeks full term, and will not do a membrane sweep until then.

Here where I live in Illinois full term is 39 weeks according to my doctor. I had my daughter at 37 weeks and she was considered early term.

But also different doctors in different states say otherwise.

I think it all depends on who you ask.. All the natural birth reading I have been doing usually fall into the 38-42 weeks is a term baby, anything 37 weeks and under is consider preteen and anything of 42 is post term. This is what I tend to agree more with. But also keeping in mind that some pregnancy complications (such as uncontrolled GD, hypertension etc) could make going past 40 weeks more dangerous

However, the huge OB/CNM/DO/Whoever the craps on call place I go to is quite a bit different. 36 and earlier is preterm, 37-40 is term, and anything over 40 they consider post term. I remember with my last pregnancy, five years ago, the same doctors started pushing induction at my 39 weeks and I had an absolutely textbook perfect pregnancy. I sooo wish there were more options where I live, but unfortunately all the practices are "sister companies" of the hospital..

I have been told both 37 and 38 weeks by different doctors

I think they used to say 37 weeks but changed it to 38 recently. Something to do with inductions and lowering the rates of problems. I gotta be honest I didn't pay too much attention to it but I read an article about it in the last year and a half- two years.
