Which is worse?

Is it worse to loose a child when they're young or loose a parent when you're young (but still have memories of them)? And yes I know they both suck. But I recently lost my mom when I was 16 and my friends parents recently lost their child when he was 17.

Personally, I think that since As a child, parents are meant to play such a huge role in our lives that when they pass at a young age, that can affect the course of a child's entire life from that point on. Regarding who's going to care for them, where they can get support, etc. for a fully grown adult to loose a child, as painful as it may be, they're still able to legally and most likely financially continue their life in a similar fashion, whereas a child has lost essentially their lifeline, someone they actually need to rely on.

I think this is an impossible question unless the person answering has both lost a parent young and then also lost a child. You can never truely know unless you have experienced both.

I don't like to compare loss, but through people who I know have experienced both losing their 5 year old and losing their parents young, I was told this...

Children are more resilient, than their counterparts when they loose a parent at a young age. Parents loosing a child at a young age take longer to mourn and process the pain.

I'm 21 pregnant with my third. My father is in a hospital about an hour away, he's turning 53 on the 25th. He's not expected to make it to his birthday. It is the worst feeling I've ever experienced. I've miscarried and I'm not sure if that's what you mean but that was not as bad as this.
