I am a junior in high school and my boyfriend graduated last year. We have been together throughout his junior and senior year and we never went to either of his proms because of last minute decisions and no money. My prom is now coming up and when I asked him nearly 3 months ago he said sure we could go, but since it's gotten closer to prom time (our prom is at the end of May) he changed his mind. These were his words: "I didn't go to either of my proms, why would I want to go now? You can go with someone else." I am sad and furious at the same time, but I dropped it to avoid an argument because I know that since he has graduated he has bills to pay and etc.

So instead, I suggested we go next year so I can save up money from my summer job. He still says no. I really want to go with him for the sake of memories and to have fun. Am I overreacting? Part of me dismisses it because it isn't important enough to argue over and possibly lose my boyfriend of 3 years, and another is determined on going next year by myself if I have to, regardless of what he wants.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
