trouble breast feeding 🤦🏻‍♀️ (advice) ??

Question

Ima 1st time mom and I was told breast feeding would be hard, but I can't even get my baby to latch on half the time & 3am it gets pretty frustrating. I'm having so much trouble. My boobs are all wacky and out of shape and in deep pain. I wanna breastfeed my baby but the struggle is real. Sometimes I feel like I'm not feeding him enough 😕😕 any advice?

Have you had a dr check for a lip or tongue tie on the baby? 
If that isn't it are you putting the nipple far enough in the mouth? Hold your boob like a hamburger and brush the nipple from baby's top lip down and when the mouth is wide open push the nipple in slightly aimed at the roof of the mouth.

It's hard but once you get the hang of it, it becomes much much easier.
You may want to talk to a lactation consultant and see what advice they can give you.
Google nose to nipple latch, watch some videos and try it. It helps to try feeding before the baby starts crying so that they are more open to trying and you'd be less tense. A breastfeeding pillow might be helpful or ask your partner to help you position the baby. Just try and stay calm as the baby can sense it when you are tense and may tense up as a reaction.
You may want to try a nipple shield. It helped me continue breastfeeding when it got painful in the 1st few days. Some women can only breastfeed using them but some lactation consultants advise against them. I do believe they are worth a shot if you want to give breastfeeding a try.

Give it a shot but if it gets too much, you can try pumping or supplementing with formula. That way baby will be full and it'll be less stressful to try again. If you reach the point where you feel like it's not working out, that's also ok. What counts is that  your baby is fed and healthy and has a happy and relaxed mommy.

I was in the same boat and I decided to see a lactation consultant. I found out he had a lip tie. The lactation consultants where I live have group meetings where they weigh him before and after a feed to see what he's getting. They also help every single time with latch if you are struggling. Don't give up! The lactation consults can help you!

My daughter wouldn't latch either. I have to use a nipple shield. The first time we tried it she had a perfect latch right away and we haven't had any problems yet. They said it would
Be temporary and to work on latching without but I haven't been successful with that. I am going to make an appointment with the lactation consultants to see if we can latch without it but if she can't then not a big deal I will continue to use the shield.

I know some lactation consultants and people advise against nipple shields, but it really helped me. I was shocked how hard it was to get him to latch. I thought it would be so easy. I had trouble pretty much the entire hospital stay and only 1 nurse could get him to latch. I was so frustrated and sad. We used the nipple shield for about 3 months. Though I often cursed it for being somewhat of a pain in the was, I truly think it saves our breastfeeding relationship. I tried off and on to get him to latch without it during that time and it was like a 3 ring circus. If he popped off it was impossible to get him back on. I thought I'd have to use the shield forever. But one night after a bath, before bed, he latched on without and we're going on 7 months now exclusively breastfeeding. It was so much harder in the beginning than I thought it would be. Good luck. ❤

We had a lot of trouble with latching. I had to use a nipple shield at first but got it figured out eventually. I used a lactation consultant and she helped a ton. Plus she had a slight tongue tie which we got lasered and she figured out how to use her tongue properly within a few weeks and it's been so Much easier.

I went through this in the beginning.  A Boopy Pillow really helps with the latch and to correct the posture of the baby while feeding.  You could also buy a supplemental formula and syringe feed the baby to give your breasts a break from the soreness.  Make sure the formula says supplemental on packaging.  Remember that the supplemental formula is temporary until you get the hang of breastfeeding and to make sure your baby gets enough food. I had to do this in the beginning at the suggestion of my child's pediatrician until my milk supply was adequate and to give my breast a break at times.  Pump your breasts when or if you syringe feed and store milk to keep your supply up. Rub some of your breastmilk on your nipples to help with the soreness.  Depending on type of pain you experience, you may want to consult with your physician.  It may be some other underlying issue going on like thrush.   If you stick with it, it does get easier.  My baby is 12 weeks and I breastfeed exclusively.  If you have to use a supplemental formula in beginning, don't feel bad.  It is just temporary until you and baby get the hang of breastfeeding.  The benefits of breastfeeding outweigh the early inconveniences.  Remember baby is learning as well.

First two weeks or so are hard and typically painful. Your nipples need to adjust and if the baby latches badly even once or twice it's enough to cause little "bites" that will hurt for days. Lanolin should help somewhat with this and the pain and discomfort generally diminishes after a week and goes away completely after two weeks or so for most women.

I have also had trouble with latching baby on one side the first few days. On the left it worked well but I just couldn't hold him properly on the right side.  Plus they have such a tiny mouth and they are so little, so what I learned is that at the beginning latching is somewhat of a trained skill for both mommy and baby. We eventually got the hang of it on both sides.

Try YouTube as someone else recommended for nursing tips and guides and practice latching some more to see if it helps.

As for baby getting enough, make sure there are enough wet and poopy diapers and check if the baby is gaining weight. If both are ok and the baby seems generally content then there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

The first week and a half were really tough got me and my baby girl. Just over 4 weeks now and the pain is gone, we're getting so much better. Hang in there. It gets better.
