Are women well educated about periods?

Lately I've been encountering a lot of people that believed untrue things about periods, for one reason. I can almost understand this with guys, but I've heard these things from women. For example- one of my friends thought you could get TSS from wearing a tampon and a pad at the same time. Another example- one of my friends thought you could only leave a tampon in for 3 hours  (!!!) before you could get TSS. Have you all heard anything that was outrageously incorrect?

When I was 12 I had a friend who was 11, and she was convinced that every single girl got their period when they turned 11. She told me that her mom and her aunt both got theirs at 11, and since she did too she was convinced. I didn't get mine until I was 13 and a half.
