iud removal

So i got my iud (Mirena) inserted in august 2016. Since, my cramps have lightened but I've had abnormal period for 5 days, and then 7 days of weird brown discharge and light cramping. This has been consistent every month since. I'm not sure if I should get it removed or how badly that might hurt. My cervix is like a steel trap and I wailed when it was inserted, despite having a decent pain tolerance. Any ideas on whether or not I should get it removed?
