too sensitive?

So I am I trying to find a job while continuing my education.  My husband was just laid off 2 days after finding out we are expecting.  So I went and got WIC.  Used it for the first time today and I was very organized with it.  The cashier shot a look to the other cashier.  I was so embarrassed and hurt.  I have went from a household that was over $100,000 a year to nothing, so it is not like I am a welfare abuser.  Just need a little assistance until we get back on our feet.  Am I being over sensitive?

People are going to look at you like that for being wealthy and carrying a Birkin or if you are dirt poor and trying to get a coffee.

I only will ask if its wic bc theres a button i have to push for wic to go through. Im a cashier for walmart and i dont give anyone looks for being on ebt or wic but i will kinda give a look if they put their heavy 32 pack of water on the belt or 24 pack of pop when they know i have a scan gun that i can come around and get those items without them having to lift it. Thats what really bothers me, not ppl on wic or ebt

No. You are not being sensitive! I was married with 3 children living a middle class lifestyle when my ex cut all funds. Our house was in foreclosure. Utilities were being shut off. I worked in food service at a public school. I had to apply for benefits. File for divorce and come up with attorney fees. Sell all my jewelry, appliances and furniture to survive. I got my children through the rest of their school year. Spent that summer packing up. The children and adults at school mocked and judged my children. The adults didn't keep their mouth shut in line so people knew my children got free lunch. The aholes at the grocery store that used to greet me with smiles gave me dirty looks and eye rolls. And when my daughter broke her wrist the witches at the doctors offices were awful! All I needed was a cast for an 8 yo! They treated us like we were leepers! I always say be careful judging. You never know when the floor bottoms out and you have nothing! Most people live paycheck to paycheck. They shouldn't be so froggy! It might be them next!

No that's normal. It was heartbreaking seeing my dad try to hide using his ebt card. Or feeling his energy and watching his breathing change as we got closer and closer to the register. People like to do that all the time. It got to the point where I got so used to it I ignored it, and either shot a look back or spoke up.

It's sad seeing someone you respect, love and know to be a strong independent man who does what it takes to feed his kids get looked at like he's nothing, or watch him basically cower in fear hoping no one sees him using government assistance. I ended up just doing the shopping myself after a few times seeing that. I couldn't take it.

When I see people talking shit about people on welfare I swear I just want to punch them in the throat multiple times👊🏼👊🏼💢😡 so they know what it feels like to swallow your pride🙄😡

I have been in the same boat. Just ignore them! They don't know your situation and people will always judge no matter what. Your doing what you can to raise your family and just remember it may be temporary so I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't think you're being sensitive. I've been using wic for over a year now and I get looks from cashiers and other customers every time. I'll admit I still get embarrassed but it is what it is. Chin up 😊
