at-home fetal Doppler?

The weeks between appointments are too long for me so I am considering buying an at-home fetal Doppler. Has anyone done this and do you recommend it? Is it harmful to the baby? What brand did you get?

The problem is there isn't any long term safety data on the effects of sound waves on developing cells. It is a fact there is some damage (cavitation, bubbles that form in the tissue) It also has never been studied or approved to be used on a frequent basis and the FDA doesn't recommend or authorize the sell of them to the public...we do know babies don't like it as they move away from it as much as possible.

A lot of doctors have raised other concerns about mother's both not coming in to be seen when they should have due to false reassurements and the flip side of causing excessive anxiety when they couldn't find the heart beat...it can sometimes be difficult to find and is not an indication that anything is wrong.

So I wouldn't recommend it. If you do get one, I would strongly recommend not using it on a daily basis. Maybe weekly or every other week. And don't freak out if you can't find the heart beat.

I love mine! It may take a bit for you to find the heartbeat but don't let it make you worried! When you find it it's the best feeling ever! As long as you don't obsess over it or let it make you scared.

not harmful! it's such a weak signal and there's no proof that it actually does harm. We bought one just to ease our minds between appointments as well and it's great, I actually barely ever use it because I'm so confident and now that I feel the baby moving I have no reason to use it.

I ordered from the same place.  I couldn't find a heart beat consistently til 13 weeks.  Once I found it now I use it once very few days or so.

I've got one and love it, I recommend it as long as you go into it knowing you may not always be able to find the heartbeat easily and sometimes not at all and if that's gonna stress you out too much stay away from it.

I have one and I'd recommend it as long as you don't think you're going to obsess over it. It's not harmful to the baby. I've listened to my baby every now and then since 10 weeks. It was really nice and reassuring to have before I could feel the baby move
