advice ladies !!

I turn 17 in about 14 days and I was planning on getting my cartilage and second hole for my lobes percied (I already have my belly button percied since I was 15) and I was wondering if I got it percied with a gun at Claire's (my cartilage) would it "shatter it" or will I be fine ?? Because my mom said it will be okay and then there's this conflict all over media saying it is damaging?? Someone with experience please help !!
