How can you tell if someone is a true friend?

I'm curious - how can you be sure someone is a true friend? I'm sick of having my feelings hurt by people who are amazingly good at pretending. What are the tricks to knowing for sure, without a doubt, that a person is a friend?

I've yet to figure it out 🤷🏽‍♀️took me 20 years to figure out my best friend from high school was a total snake literally trying to ruin my life behind my back while being my "sister" to my face.

I have found when your situation isn't the best, like a death, illness biggest one is being broke and having to cancel plans because you don't have the money to do anything. Your real friends will stick around, the fakes will go away.

I found out who my real friends were very quickly, between three deaths in 8 weeks, getting so ill I almost end died and my mom getting ill again, our of 6 friends, 2 stayed around.

I've known my two best friends for years, we drifted apart (with no bad feelings), something bad happened to one of them and myself and the other were there immediately. We all have each other's backs no matter what, we tell each other the truth and support each other no matter what. If they need food/money/somewhere to stay then it's theirs, we would all go without to help each other. They aren't bitchy girls at all. I don't think these are things you can just find in someone (apart from not being bitchy), the friendships, trust and loyalty builds up over time.

For me, it's the ones who can put me in my place, without going crazy. The ones who go out of their way to check on me. The ones who will happily watch the Bee Movie with you, and shove cookies down your throat while you cry about a dumb boy. Repeatedly.

This is tricky, because some ppl are very clever at being there when you need them. So with that being said, you really have to pay attention to the persons demeanor, body language, and listen to their rhetoric.

I would still occasionally put them into situations where I may need them, but also see what their old friends have to say about them. Sometimes the best advice comes from those that where there before you. And when that happens pay attention to see if that is truly who they are. Best of luck!😉
