Boyfriend Baby Momma Drama

So I've been dating this guy ever since he found out his ex was pregnant. She is due in july and she has this hatred towards me that i can never understand. I don't interfere in their baby business at all.  I dont talk about it unless he talks to me about it. One day he mentioned me going to South Carolina with him when he goes to see the baby. Just I don't want the mother to feel like I'm over stepping boundaries but i don't want him to feel like I'm not there for him or his daughter. Am i making a smart move by keeping out the baby drama? What should i do?
