BC help and suggestions!
OK ladies, this is a long one and for that I apologize...
So let me just give some background first… My husband (31) and I (27) have been together now for almost 11 years, and married almost 3. We are not yet considering having kids and don't know if we will ever have them… We're just not in that mindset yet.
Just after we got married in May 2014 I got the Nexplanon (P only) implanted in my arm and have just had it removed in April 2017. Before that I had tried the Lo loestrin fe combination pill (P+E) but it made my mood swings so crazy that I had to stop taking it before the three month trial period was over.
While on Nexplanon my husband says I continued to experience mood swings (although not as severe as on the pill). I also had weight gain, inability to lose weight, and acne.
Since we're not ready to have kids and the hormones are apparently something I am sensitive to, I was considering the Paraguard copper IUD. Good for 10 years, OK for women who have had children, no hormones - sounds perfect, except that I already have long and painful and heavy periods and this would not help with those and might even make them worse.
When I went to my GYN, she suggested that maybe I should get the Kyleena (P) IUD because it still is long-lasting, up to five years, but may decrease my periods. There was also a promise with Nexplanon but due to the fact it was only progesterone it might decrease my period and I would only have spotting but that didn't happen. (She also mentioned Skyla but since I'm still on the fence about kids and that only lasts three years, she said it probably would not be as good of a fit as Kyleena.) It is also smaller because it's made for women who have not had kids and therefore have a smaller uterus. I guess that helps reduce the rate of expulsion?
My husband and I had talked about the ParaGard and pretty much decided on it but now with this new twist I don't know if I should go for the one with hormones and risk continuing acne or go for the hormone free one and possibly have horrible periods?
