Is it possible to have a 'mutual' breakup?

I see this term on here a lot but someone told me it can't be mutual unless you both say you want to break up at the exact same time. And that whoever brings it up is the one that breaks it up. Thoughts?

Someone is obviously bound to say it first but I think it's mutual if you are both just going through the motions. If when one brings it up, the other expresses that they feel the same then it's mutual.

Well if you've both been having fading feelings/drifting apart, it doesn't really matter who brings it up. If you both want to break up, it's mutual

Mutually agreeing to break up. A not mutual break up is when one of them doesnt want to break up. However if its something both parties want, its mutual. In my last relationship, he would always not want to break up until the day he proposed it and i agreed to it. It was over for me but he brought it up
