anyone know anything about HPV?

So a guy I had sex with two years ago messaged me saying a girl he had sex with has HPV. And if I have it.. I have never gotten a Pap smear so I don't know and I'm freaking out. I just had a baby and they didn't do one, I'll be getting one done soon but if I had HPV would the doctor notice something different in my vagina or can they just tell through a Pap smear.
Please help I'm freaking out.

I had hpv at 23 and ended up with pre cancerous cells. You need a pap ASAP because if I had not of had the operation it would have been far worse then it was.

I'm currently 29 and 17 weeks pregnant and the hpv is gone. My doctors told me it often just "disappears" from the body so having it once doesn't mean you always will.

It can be serious though and you need to get checked out

HPV can cause cancerous cervical cells. They find them with a pap smear and you usually have to have them removed and go back every 6 months to get checked. HPV can be carried in men but men don't have symptoms and it won't hurt them, but they can pass it on to women and last I heard condoms don't protect against it (correct me if I'm wrong). However you can get a vaccine for it. Usually they give you a pap smear during pregnancy though to check for STD's so chances are they would've found it then.

Wow obviously you know nothing!! HPV is a virus inside of everyone and there is nothing you can do about it. Talk about fucking ignorance! There is no proof that HPV leads to cancer! The reason they are concerned is because it might cause an abnormal cell growth. But so what your body will take care of it!  And if it doesn't then you and your doctor will catch it with annual pap smears. She asked if someone knew anything about HPV and it sure as fuck seems like you sont so your comments are not needed.

Sorry as a health care provider I have to jump in here. 1. Call your GYN and have a PAP if you are worried. 2. Current guidelines say that we start PAP @ 21, start testing for HPV at 30, and treat based on strain and cytology (cell changes in cervix). 3. HPV has most certainly been linked to cancer (most recently found to be the culprit in a majority of head and neck cancers!). 4. The vaccine does prevent the most carinogenic strains of HPV. This has been scientifically proven. 5.  Of the many strains of HPV, most ppl will "clear" (your body fights the virus and wins) in 2 years.  So for ppl with high risk strains we shorten the testing interval.

There are opinions and then there are facts. Don't get them confused. Use "real" resources (ex: CDC, Planned Parenthood websites) to research and if you have questions, please talk to your healthcare provider.

Def get the PAP done. Although it is the most common STD, it is still an STD. 4 strains of HPV can cause not only cervical cancer, but also genital warts and cancer of the penis, vagina, vulva and oral cancer (base of tongue and throat) from having oral sex with an infective partner. Men do not show symptoms and are carriers. The vaccine is effective in protections you as well. Best of luck!

Your doctor's would have checked when you were pregnant. That's standard.

Hpv is also very common and easily transmitted. Most men won't show symptoms. Go get a pap and try not to worry until you get the results.

It took him 2 years to tell you? Also typically doctors test for everything during pregnancy so im not sure why they wouldnt do a pap smear on you at all... but tell them to test you for it and they will.

HPV is extremely common and nothing to worry about! Everyone will get a type of HPV in there lifetime, there are over 150 types of HPV and your body will clear it up within two years. No worries girl!! Please dont get the vaccine for it either! There is no proof that HPV leads to cancer! Just get a pap if your ever concerned.
