How soon is too soon to get into a relationship after another?

I'm a recent widow...like not even a year yet recent with a 15month old son. But i have been approached by a high school friend that I had a crush on when we were in high school. He admitted that he always had feelings for me and a crush on me from when we were in high school but never told anyone. I would have to say what has awakened old feelings is how he treats my son...he has bragged about him like it was his own...he has said he wants to take care of us...being a bachelor a dad role is very new to him but he handles being around my son very well from the few times we been on play dates together. Part of me wants to just go with it...part of me says it's too early. But why should I care what people will say? How often do you find someone that has seen all your faces and still love you?
