How true are reality television shows?

What are your thoughts? Do you have any experience with it? My sister was going to be on one and quickly realized how fake it was so she bailed.

They are all scripted they mash things together so something that happened 2 weeks ago will get put with things that just happened to make it seem new and relevant and if you dont bring drama then you wont get much air time

Cast from love and hip hop atl came out and said all the above and that things are edited so far to only show the main drama points for ratings you only get a few seconds worth of the whole situation

It honestly depends on the show. I was on an international one and it was mostly true but they definitely tried to manipulate us emotionally and try to create drama. They also edit things to create a story, they might even cut something in from a long time before or after an incident or show someone saying something that seems to pertain to a situation or person but they were talking about something completely different. Ours was not scripted at all to my knowledge, though. It really depends on the show, and production company.
