Ovarian Cyst?

(Apologies if not in the correct group, but I wasn't sure where this topic fit in exactly)

So I went to my OB/GYN today to check up on my iud that I got a few months ago. They told me the iud looks perfect, but they found a cyst on my left ovary. I'm 19, so this is really the first "bad news" I've gotten from any doctor. It's 5 cm, or about the size of a golf ball. (Is it just me, or does that sound massive to y'all?) They played it like it was no big deal, and told me it happens to a lot of people and that it will probably go away by itself, but I have an appointment in a month to check up on it just to be sure. I'm really curious as to see what others' experiences with ovarian cysts are. Does it happen to a lot of people? Help me calm my anxiety.

I'm the same age as you but I currently have several large ones plus ovaries so swollen it looks like just one. I think they said the cysts I have are the size of grapefruit. This is honestly the most painful thing I've ever been through. I got mine from the clomid I was taking. I'm really hoping it goes away quickly

I had the same thing happen with an IUD and about that size too, it didn't give me any symptoms . When it came time to get the IUD out , I had a follow up and the cyst went away. Unless you have symptoms it really isn't an issue , common thing to happen

I was diagnosed with PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovaries)  when I was about 14 itsmany cyst in my ovaries. I've had a laporascopy which they removed the cyst however they came back. My menstral cycles were always abnormal I would go months with out a cycle then bleed for 30 days I even went a year without a cycle my doctor put me on BC to help regulate my cycles, however after trying many different brands of BC because they would make me sick she then switched to Pevora it does not prevent me from getting pregnant but it does help regulate my periods. Having PCOS makes it very difficult to become pregnant I've tried for many years in 2013 I finally got pregnant and had a miscarriage. I just gave birth to my first child last month. Some people experience pain with ovarian cysts I did not my pain came from me not being able to get pregnant.

Do y'all miss your periods when you get ovarian cysts? I've been having slight pains every once in a while in both sides of my lower tummy and am currently going on my third missed period. Been to docs -- blood test is negative for pregnancy. Just curious because maybe this is it!
