Do you think there is any benefit in forest fires?

There is a forest fire near my town. It was started by lighting. Everyone is saying how sad and terrible it is. The fire is contained and they are letting it burn and no one is in severe danger. I was just wondering what others think about it.

Yes if it's something naturally occurring or a controlled thing firemen do. It clears the area of deadwood and other things that may catch on fire. For instance when it happens in the Sahara or desert it clears way for new life. And when firefighters start controlled fires it's great to clear way for potentially hazardous dead or flamible plant life.

Idk if that makes sense. But I remember during that Smokey the Bear 🐻 thing in elementary/middle school a fire chief came to the school and explained the benefits of forest/brush fires. But also explained that we need to still be responsible and only have fires on the "low" days.

I grew up in the desert for a while so there would be specific days we had to burn the weeds.🤷🏻‍♀️ sometimes they would close off some of the roads to have controlled brush fires so I think there may be benefit in them.

I read this little inspirational book called Born from Fire which is all about the Fire that destroyed Yellowstone National park in the 80's. It's really inspirational and talks about all the new growth and life that comes from the Fire. It's actually a natural part of the nature cycle.

Ok if u are talking about controlled fires, ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY controlled forest fires burn down wood to a certain point, so if an unexpected fire happens, it isn't as bad

Scientifically speaking yes there are benefits. In some state parks they will do controlled burns. I can't exactly remember why it is so good for the forest but do remem we learning about it in one of my bio classes.

Well it fertilises soil, which in turn helps plants.

It's very beneficial to the environment, actually. The ashes and the seeds that get released from plants and trees all provide new growth. Cycle of nature, nothing is immortal.

It's actually beneficial in some forests! My local Agriscience center has a 'Disturbed' forest where they do annual burns because it actually helps the ecosystem.

This is only CONTROLLED burns though, accidental fires from things such as cigarettes can do actual damage to the ecosystem.
